Youth Worker of the Year

In 2011, Rebecca Hamer was named as 'Youth Worker of the Year' in the first Christian Youth Work Awards.

"It's had a huge impact on not only me personally, but also the project that I run, and my professional development. At the time, I was two years exactly into setting up a new project in Harrow – The SPACE Project. I was feeling somewhat tired and in need of encouragement. I returned from a retreat, and the first thing I did was to open a letter telling me that I’d been nominated! I was stunned, bowled over, and humbled. It was exactly what I needed: to feel valued, encouraged, and blessed.

Meeting the Archbishop of York was an honour, and the opportunity to meet and talk with other award winners, provided a refreshing opportunity to celebrate the bigger picture again; to glimpse once more the wider work of the Kingdom through the body of Christ in this country. It made me stop, take stock and celebrate the successes – which doesn’t always come easily to busy youth workers. Not to mention the wonderful prizes and resources!

Since then it has opened doors for me in terms of new opportunities, a raised profile for the SPACE Project and my own professional development. It’s boosted my confidence, affirmed me in my role and refreshed both my energy and vision for the future. This is a fantastic opportunity to partner with God and His church, in blessing, encouraging and re-invigorating your youth worker."
