Youth Worker of the Year
Lee Kirkby - Youth Worker of the Year 2015
Lee is the youth worker at St Michael Le Belfry in York, where he runs events for the young people as well as offering mentoring and support. Through this, several of the young people have been encouraged to get involved at church and now serve regularly on the teams. Lee has also set up The Storehouse, a youth venue which the church youth group uses for outreach and mission and local young people come for a community drop in every week. He found a run down garage and had the tenacity to pray and pray and work until the funds were found to rent it. He found dozens of people to work at restoring and redecoration. He inspired people in the church to give to the project. The venue is now used most days not only by church young people but in outreach and mission. Lee's energy and enthusiasm have made it a city-wide success.
On receiving the award, Lee thanked his wife and daughter and went on to say, "I share this amazing award - an honour and a privilege - with my amazing team. I'm so blessed to work with excellent colleagues who are also my best friends."
